Hannah Hoch: Artist

Hannah Hoch was a pioneer in the field of photomontage. Born in Berlin in 1889, it was hard for Hoch to be acknowledged as an important artist in her own right by her male peers. She struck up important friendships with other artist such as Raoul Haussmann, Kurt Schwitters and Piet Mondrian. She became a part of the Berlin group of Dadaists and much of her art addresses love, sexuality and gender roles. Many of her works feature half male half female forms and definately represent both her bi-sexuality and her frustration as a female artist purely acknowledged as a lover (of Haussmann) not an artist in her own right.
